1913 Markarian was born on November 29 in Shulaver (Georgia)
1933-1938 study at the Physical-Mathematical Department of the Yerevan State University, graduated with a specialization of mathematics
1938-1939 worked as an assistant at the Department of High Mathematics of the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute
1939-1941 post-graduate study on astrophysics at the Leningrad State University (supervisor: V.A. Ambartsumian)
1941-1942 military service in the Soviet Army during the Second World War (in Iran)
1942 first scientific paper (in the Bulletin of the Yerevan Astrophysical Observatory, together with S.V. Nekrasova)
1943-1956 lecturer at the Yerevan State University
1944 defense of the Candidate thesis (subject: Fluctuations in the visible distribution of stars and the cosmic absorption, supervisor: V.A. Ambartsumian)
1946 started to work at the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory as a senior research associate
